Emerald is a vigorous Southern highbush blueberry developed by the University of Florida for mild-winter climates. It produces heavy crops of large, firm blueberries with an attractive medium-to-dark-blue color, a small picking scar, and sweet flavor.

Its low chilling requirement and early harvest make Emerald well suited to North Florida and other areas along the Gulf Coast. Although Emerald is self-fertile, planting it with another compatible Southern highbush variety improves pollination, berry size, and total production.

Pollination Note: Emerald is a Southern highbush blueberry and should be paired with another Southern highbush variety—not a rabbiteye—for the best cross-pollination. Jewel and Farthing are strong pollinator choices when their bloom periods overlap.

Soil Note: Blueberries require acidic soil and will struggle if the soil pH is too high. Pine bark can be incorporated into the planting area and used as mulch to improve drainage, conserve moisture, and help maintain acidic growing conditions.
